Startup Redding Director
Job Title: Startup Director
Type: Part-Time (20 hours/week with flexible schedule)
Location: On-site in Redding, CA
Compensation: $29,500/year (paid hourly)
About Startup Redding
Startup Redding is an initiative of the Economic Development Corporation of Shasta County. The Shasta EDC is dedicated to strengthening the region’s startup ecosystem and supporting entrepreneurs by building the world’s most supportive startup community. In addition to fostering community and education, Startup Redding functions as a funding pipeline, connecting local entrepreneurs with the Shasta Angels investment organization.
Role Summary
The Startup Director plays a key role in shaping how our region views and supports entrepreneurship. This position is responsible for building relationships with local entrepreneurs and business leaders, serving as the face of Startup Redding both in one-on-one meetings and on stage at events.
The Director sets the tone for a vibrant, connected, and energized startup culture. This is a highly relational and hands-on role—ideal for someone passionate about entrepreneurship and skilled at bringing people together. The Director doesn’t need to be an expert in business, but should be familiar with the startup process and how to connect founders with the right people and resources.
Note: If you are comfortable and skilled at public speaking, like meeting new people, engaging with high-profile community members, and connecting entrepreneurs with opportunity, this role could be the right fit.
Core Responsibilities
- Work with Shasta EDC CEO and staff to develop and deliver the annual Startup Redding program
- Host and emcee monthly entrepreneur meetups and large annual events like Startup Games and the Northern California Venture Conference
- Offer ongoing support, accountability, advice, and connections to local founders
- Represent Startup Redding at community events and within the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem
- Attend Shasta Angels monthly investment meetings and prepare local founders to pitch
Qualifications
Required:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Confident and authentic public speaker that can captivate an audience and inspire action
- Strong interest in business and startup culture
- Scrappy action-oriented mindset
- Passion for the city of Redding and belief in its potential
Preferred: *Candidates without the following qualifications will still be considered
- Experience starting or running a business, ideally in Redding
- Expertise in a specific business area (e.g., finance, marketing, fundraising, or operations)
- Degree in business-related field
- Experience delivering energetic and engaging community events
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Primary worksite is flexible, but working from the Shasta EDC office is required periodically
- Local travel required within Shasta County for events and meetings
- Must be able to lift and transport event materials (e.g., signage, lighting, staging elements)
- Must be comfortable speaking on stage and standing for extended periods (up to two hours)
